NOOSA continued their absolute dominance of Gold Coast rivals Burleigh with another big win over the Bombers at Weyba Road on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Coolangatta play their first match of the Pineapple Hotel Cup season with an away match against Wilston-Grange in Brisbane on Saturday. The highlight match is up on the Sunshine Coast where Noosa take on Burleigh in a rematch of last season’s preliminary finalists. Elsewhere, Sandgate host Springwood, and there are two matches on the Gold Coast – Palm Beach-Currumbin against Western Magpies and Surfers Paradise against Maroochy-Northshore.
COOLANGATTA have pulled off a stunning promotional coup by signing colourful former AFL star Jason Akermanis to a one-off match appearance in May. Akermanis, the 300-game former Brisbane and Western Bulldogs star, will feature in a sports dinner at Peak Oval on Friday night, May 20, then turn out for the Blues in a southern Gold Coast derby against Palm Beach-Currumbin on the next afternoon.
NOOSA won the battle of the heavyweights up on the Sunshine Coast and new coach David Martin had instant success when his Wilston-Grange Gorillas rolled hot favourites and last season’s beaten grand finalists Sandgate in highlight matches to open the new Pineapple Hotel Cup season.

In the other match, the Western Magpies made a triumphant return to the QAFL’s Premier League with an encouraging away win over season 2010 finalists Maroochy-Northshore.
