Bull Sharks circling and looking dangerous at the top of the QAFLW ladder after Round 6

It’s been an extraordinary start to the Bond University Bull Sharks 2021 QAFLW campaign,  with a win on the weekend making it five from five after round six.

It was at the hands of reigning premiers Yeronga, that the  Bull Sharks consolidated their top of the table position with an enormous 53-point victory. Their first meeting since the 2020 preliminary final with Bond’s season ending abruptly going down 37-72.

The round six win over the Devils gave their opposition their third lost, while Coolangatta, Aspley and Wilston Grange also lost in upsets at home.

In there first six matches, Bond University have been able to win every quarter played adding to their impressive season of stats.

Breaking down their game against the Devils, Bond were able to exploit Yeronga deficiencies in defence. They continued to clean up at half back, with strong pressure in the midfield lowering the quality of Yeronga’s kicks.

Young guns Mikayla Pauga and Lucinda Pullar have had strong seasons to date and were best on ground for the Sharks. Pauga ended Saturday with 20 touches and 4 goals while Pullar got 19 quality touches.

Bull Sharks coach Luke Mansbridge said we he was really happy with how the season is progressing for the side.

“I know Yeronga were a bit undermanned with Jordan Zanchetta and Zimmorlei Farquharson out, but it was a great win for our girls,” he said.

“We still have areas of our game to work on, but I feel like we have a lot of depth in our list this year.

“Our young talent and academy players are having an outstanding season; we don’t have to just rely on our top players anymore.

“I want competition for spots, and I want girls to be disappointed if they aren’t getting a game and hopefully that drives them to improve.

“We try and play an exciting brand of football; the girls are having fun on the field and if we can maintain that attitude there will be a positive flow on effect.

“We want to be known not just as a development club but a strong competitor that plays finals and wins premiership.”

Bond University will play a catch-up match against Coolangatta this weekend after their round three clash was postponed due to weather.

The Bluebirds will be eager for a win after their 41- point loss in round six to Coorparoo.

The Bull Sharks will then travel to St Lucia for round seven playing University of Queensland in a top of the table clash.

University of Queensland are looking strong in second spot, after a 61- point win over the Aspley on Saturday.

Coming off a couple of tough losses to Coolangatta and Coorparoo, the Lionesses were firing against the Hornets. They were able to dominate the contest, gain clearances and deliver the ball into the forward 50 with ease allowing Grace Brennen to kick five goals.

The Lionesses had four debutants on the day; Jess Wiggan, Jess Stallard, Jamie Bryant and Ava Seaton, all making their impact felt from the first bounce.
