Coorparoo Kings vs Kenmore
The Kings needed a win last week to secure top spot on the ladder and they were not able to hold off Red Lions going down by nine points.
The Coorparoo backline were tremendous in the third quarter and kept the Red Lions goalless. The forward line, headed by J.Lake with three goals, put on plenty of scoreboard pressure in a second half but it was not enough to seal the game.
Ball magnet Jack Lake continued his solid form from last week’s game against Kedron with a superb best on ground effort, while Tyson Spurling capped a fine year with another excellent four quarter effort.
Kenmore were able to break their losing streak against Wynnum as they accounted for Vikings by 46 points.
The convincing victory was assisted by a strong 9 goal first half that allowed the Bears to jump the Vikings out of the gate.
Their four goal third quarter was enough to keep the lead and come away with the desperately needed four points to get them safe in third spot and into the finals.
Tom Ielasi had a busy day up forward and booted six much need goals to be best on ground for the Bears.
His best haul of the year will be a massive confidence boost for the Kenmore front line that has scarcely seen big scoring forwards in the second half of the season.
The these two sides have never met in a final. When the Kings were running hot earlier in the year they were able to dominate Kenmore with a score line that didn’t accurately represent the one sided affair.
The Bears turned it around in ten they did not get the points but the soreboard looked a bit more respectable than the first round, and the Bears have certainly improved come the second half of the year.
Big game players like Ben Gibson and Tim Plummer will flourish for their respective sides in this one, with the outcome set to go either way.
The incentive of putting yourself in the position to be only one more win away from a Grand Final berth should spur on both sides to pull out their best in what is sure to be an entertaining battle.

Aspley Hornets Vs Wynnum
Finals footy kicks off in the SEQAFL second division with Aspley Hornets taking on Wynnum at Kedron on Saturday. The Devils pushed the Hornets last week but were unable to bridge the 36 point margin setup by the Hornets solid third term. The Hornets endeavour over the whole game showed what they are capable of, Steve Jackson is showing the way for the Hornets Kicking six goals in a best on ground performance abley supported by Blake Hynes who kicked four, Michael Tonizzo is emerging as threat in the finals last week he was named in the best for the Hornets once again.Alex Gregoriou continued his purple patch that has been seen throughout the past month with one goal and best on ground honours, while Brad O’Brien and Steve Imrie were consistent as ever.
Wynnum were not able to bounce back from their loss to Red Lions two weeks ago with a loss to Kenmore in the final round of the regular season. The Bears kept a three goal buffer for the majority of the match and finished well with an imposing second half. Russell Alleway continued his consistent year with a four goal haul and, Scott Gillett Willie Broome and Ashley Rodrigues all finished the season with a fantastic last month and were again influential againstthe Bears.
So far the points have gone to Wynnum this year. However, the dramatic change in form for both sides in the second half of the season shows that only their most recent form would give the most accurate indication of who would be favourite this week. The Vikings late season month and a half brain fade almost forced them out of the finals race altogether, while the Hornets were able to string together big wins against good sides and peak at the right time of year. Although they are coming of a loss, thye vikings will need to provide a true finals miracle to get over the Aspley Hornets outfit that has shown plenty of heart in recent weeks. There is no home ground advantage for either side as the Hornets will look to close this one with ease and progress to the second week of the finals.
