Allen Hopes to shine in SUNS debut

Having been named as an emergency several times this season, Jackson Allen finally gets his chance to play senior football against the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Metricon stadium tomorrow.

Originally from Mt Gambier, Allen moved with his family to Brisbane in 2004 where he played five years of junior football with the Kenmore bears.

Another product of the Queensland talent pathway Allen represented Queensland at Under 12, Under 16 and Under 18 level and was a member of the Australian Institute of Sport AFL squad.

Allen made his senior football debut with the Western Magpies before joining NEAFL Club Morningside.

The 19-year-old battled osteitis-pubis in 2010 and despite calf problems that hampered his 2001 preparation he trained with Gold Coast SUNS and was used as a top-up player for their reserves team.

Impressed by the 179cm youngster, The SUNS signed him as a Queensland Zone player prior to the 2011 AFL Draft.

Known for his penetrating kick and excellent skills on both sides Allen has also impressed coaches with his innate football smarts.
