Week 1 Brisbane Juniors finals

AFL Brisbane Juniors kicked off their finals series this weekend with twelve action packed matches across the two days.

Saturday saw the under 12 and under 16 division three teams battle it out at Victoria Point Oval and Sunlinc Oval.

In the under 12s Wilston Grange defeated Wests Juniors in their qualifying final, 6.7-42 to 1.0-6 while Mayne was eliminated from the final series after losing to Aspley Brown by 10 points.

The under 16s saw Wests Juniors take on Mt Gravatt White in the qualifying finals while Mayne played Morningside Red in the Elimination final.

Wests and Mayne posted convincing wins over their respective opponents and move through to the next round.

Mt Gravatt White will have a second chance next weekend when they take on Mayne in semi final 1.

On Sunday, the Under 14 McDonalds Shield and under 16 McDonald’s Cup games were played at Yeronga.

In near perfect conditions there were some fierce battles played out between the posts.

In the under 14 division Darling Downs and Sherwood and Kenmore and Wilston Grange fought to keep their finals hopes afloat in their elimination finals.

Darling Downs (10.8-68) came away with the win over Sherwood (5.5.35) while Wilston Grange (10.6-66) defeated Kenmore (6.7.-43).

In the under 14 qualifying finals, Coorparoo defeated Aspley Gold and Mt Gravatt Blue defeated Morning side Black.

Both Morningside and Aspley get a chance to redeem themselves next week when they take on Wilston Grange and Darling Downs respectively.

In the Under 16 McDonald’s Cup, Morningside played Sandgate and Aspley played Redland for their shot at a semi-final berth and Wilston Grange played Mt Gravatt and Redcliffe played Coorparoo in the two elimination finals.

Morningside just pipped Sandgate, taking their game by 11 points and winning themselves a place in next week’s semi finals.

Aspley was able to account for Redland by 32 points cementing their place in week two of the finals series.

In the elimination finals, Mt Gravatt were too strong for Wilston Grange and Coorparoo defeated Redcliffe by 9 points.

Next week sees MT Gravatt take on Sandgate and Redland play Coorparoo in the semi finals.
