The 2017 AFL Queensland Under 14 State Academy Championships are well underway, with matches being played at Fisherman’s Rd Sporting Complex, Maroochydore, from Monday September 18 to Friday September 22.
This year’s boys’ carnival will see regional teams from Brisbane South East, Brisbane South West, Darling Downs, Brisbane North, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast North, Gold Coast South, North Queensland Northern, North Queensland Central, Northern Rivers and Papua New Guinea compete across three pools.
The girls’ championships features teams from Brisbane South, Brisbane North, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Darlings Downs, North Queensland and, for the first time, the Northern Rivers.
Both championships are the first steps in a junior player’s football development; preparing them for the next stage in their journey through the AFL Queensland Player Pathway.
The theme of the championships’ is ‘Let them play’, with boys and girls encouraged to express themselves, learn through a discovery environment and develop their game sense.
