Panthers do it for charity

The Morningside Panthers are dedicating this week’s NEAFL Elimination Final at Jack Esplen Oval to the charity beyondblue.

Panthers Senior Section President David Diamond said the idea came about when the club was looking for an event sponsor for this week’s match.

“It was suggested by a number of supporters that we give charity recognition to raise awareness for their cause and also help fundraise,” Diamond said.

“We came up with beyondblue, whose work is aimed at achieving an Australian community that understands depression and anxiety, empowering all Australians, at any life-stage, to seek help.”

Diamond said that the Panthers club values are about community and people.

“We are lucky to be celebrating paying in the finals and if we can help raise awareness and funding for another community group then that is the essence of our club.”

A portion of supporters funding for the final plus a gold coin tin rattle on the day will go to beyondblue.

“We hope to have a great crowd supporting the Panthers with our Rising Stars (U18’s) playing at 10.45am followed by the NEAFL senior final at 1.30 pm.” Said Diamond

“Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day. It promises to be a great day’s AFL action and a very entertaining community event at Jack Esplen Oval.”
