The AFL Queensland Level 2 Coaching Course will be held on the Gold Coast on the weekend of November 24 and 25.
The Level 2 Course is designed for senior, representative, development and youth coaches with an aptitude and genuine interest in improving their coaching skills.
The 2 day course commences with workshops focusing on game plans, strategies and tactics, game sense development, planning, list management, culture, structure, community and club responsibilities.
Other areas coaches will focus on include preparing a coaching plan that incorporates pre season, in-season and season review.
Coaches will have the opportunity to be lectured by and share ideas with some of the leading AFL coaches from both interstate and Queensland who will be attending the AFL Draft earlier in the week.
AFL Queensland Coach and Volunteer Manager Jack Barry acknowledged the importance of coach education.
“This is a great opportunity to gain a greater knowledge of AFL,” said Barry.
“ The game is constantly evolving and we need our new and present coaches to keep up with latest trends.
“It’s important that year-in, year-out you are coming up with fresh messages for your playing list and club”.
“The coaching industry has grown immensely at the elite level and we are to a certain extent a mirror image of that in NEAFL and community football”.
“Just as there is a focus on emerging playing talent we are looking to up the ante for talented coaches and provide opportunities for them through our talent programs such as the NEAFL and Senior and Youth football and AFL Academies”.
“Murray Davis and Nathan Clarke (Brisbane Lions) are great examples of community coaches who have progressed to AFL lists as assistant coaches.
To be eligible to gain your level 2 accreditation you must have held a Level 1 coaching certificate for more than 2 years and have been actively involved in coaching.
Current level 2 Coaches are also encouraged to attend as an update.
Cost of the Course is $230 for level 1 coaches and $55 for level 2 coaches wishing to update their skills. Prices are GST inclusive.
