McPhee boots 10, as the Bombers fly up

South Toowoomba’s Dan McPhee has brought up the magical 100 goals for the season after booting 10 goals to propel the Bombers into the 2012 Allied Pickford’s decider.

Both sides hit the ground running in the opening term as both teams traded blows in front of the big sticks. Before the Bombers, were able to sneak home a late goal in the closing minutes of the first quarter. Souths went into the first break with a very minor 6-point advantage.

Holman medallist Trent Saxelby was in scintillating form off the half back as was Bombers skipper Ben Newman. For the Roo’s midfielder Tom Rudolph and ruckman Corin Sankey were the main contributors.

It was much the same in the second quarter but this time the Roos outscored the Bombers, 4-goals to 3 but it was South Toowoomba who were able to hang onto a slender lead. Coolaroo cut the lead back from 6 to just 2-points at the main break.

Again Rudolph was shining brightly for the Roo’s as was Bastian Buerger and Sankey. The Bombers midfield brigade of Jeff Neumann, Tom Zilm and Bradon Behan were working well together and were well supported by Kyle Smith and skipper Newman again.

You would have loved to be a fly on the wall at half-time in the Souths rooms, as the Bombers came out all guns blazing. Souths put on an absolute clinic kicking 8 goals to the Roo’s 3 in an astonishing display of football.

Souths midfielders Neumann, Smith, Zilm along with McPhee and Gladman were outstanding; Bombers outplayed their Coolaroo opponent’s right across the paddock. For Coolaroo young star Michael Langton and forward Miels Grice were the main contributors during the game changing quarter.

South Toowoomba held a 25point lead going into the final quarter.

Again both sides traded blow for blow, with each kicking 3 goals a-piece but it was the Bombers who wasted opportunities in front of goal. Souths booted 3goals 6 behinds in the final quarter and could of extended the final margin much further.

The final score saw South Toowoomba 18.9 (117) def. Coolaroo 13.9 (87)

South Toowoomba progress straight through to the 2012 Allied Pickfords Cup Grand-Final and Coolaroo will now face the reigning premiers Toowoomba Tigers in the Preliminary Final this Saturday at Rockville Oval from 2:15pm.
