QAFA (A) kicks off this weekend

Footy is back in South-East Queensland , with the start of the QAFA (A) competition this weekend.

The QAFA (A) competition, or Amateur As, underpins the QAFL and QFA competitions, as part of the 2014 community football restructure.

All teams in the competition have both seniors and reserves, with teams coming from areas around South-East Queensland, spanning from the Gold Coast to North Brisbane.

This season, the QAFA (A) competition will consist of nine teams in 2014, with Beenleigh, Carrara, Griffith Moorooka, Ipswich, Logan, Park Ridge, Pine Rivers, Redcliffe and UQ all entering teams.

Last year’s SEQAFL Division Three premiers, Coomera, have moved into the QFA (South) competition for 2014, while Park Ridge is a newcomer into the competition.

Redcliffe comes into the competition after competing in SEQAFL Division Two last year, and will likely be tough to beat as the season goes on.

2013 grand finalists, Beenleigh will be looking to go one better this year and should have a fair chance, with the Magpies moving to the QFA.

Griffith Moorooka, Pine Rivers, Logan and Ipswich will be pushing to become greater threats in the competition, while Carrara and UQ will be looking to improve on their 2013 efforts .

Round 1 kicks off on Saturday March 15, as follows:

UQ v Logan – Griffith University Campus Oval 2
Griffith Moorooka vs. Carrara  – Alexander Park
Park Ridge v Beenleigh – C.J Greenfield Complex
Redcliffe v Ipswich – Rothwell Park
