Kenmore picked up a narrow win over Alex Hills, to keep their finals hopes alive.

Leading by only five points at half-time, the Bears kicked away in the third, with a four-goal-to-one term, with the game in their hands at the final change.

Alex Hills mounted a serious comeback in the last quarter, but failed to convert their opportunities, falling short by nine points.

Darcy Thynne was strong for the Bears, with two goals for the match, while Harry Baldwin and Beau Silvey were also solid contributors.

Nathan Burgess was the Bombers’ best, finishing with five goals for the game.

What the coaches said:

Graham Henwood (Alex Hills):

“It was a really tough loss.”

“Our season was on the line and once again, we let the opposition get too many soft goals.”

Yeronga South Brisbane      5.5,  9.7,  12.10,  17.14  (116)
Caloundra                                    4.3,  5.5,  6.8,  6.9  (45)

It was business as usual for Yeronga on Saturday, as they picked up their fourth straight win and sixth of the season.

The Panthers pushed the Devils in the first, but the home side kicked away with a four goal to one second term, and never looked back.

Shaun Mugavin kicked another bag for the Devils, finishing with seven, while fullback Shane McGrath had another standout performance.

Trent Saxelby was the best for the Panthers on the day.

Nambour & Hinterland         6.5,  14.6,  20.8,  27.11  (173)
Wynnum                                  1.0,  2.1,  3.5,  6.9  (45)

A 10-goal haul from player-coach Ben Stanley set the tone for a massive Nambour victory, over Wynnum, on Saturday.

The Sunny Coast side burst out of the blocks, with a 14-goal-to-two first half.

Nambour’s win was their second straight, and puts them fifth on the ladder, well in finals contention.

It wasn’t all bad for Wynnum, with the Vikings kicking their highest score of the year in the match.

Robina                                  6.3, 10.9,  23.11,  33.16  (214)
Kedron                                  3.1,  9.2,  12.5,  13.7  (85)

Robina’s unbeaten roll continued on Saturday, with a win over Kedron.

The Roos were pushed until half time, but took their game up a level in the second half, with 23 goals to seven.

Nathan Gurciullo stepped up into the void left by Korey Fulton, kicking nine goals for the Roos.

Corey Stamp kicked five for the Lions and was their best all day.

What the coaches said:
Mark Vigus (Robina):

“In the first half against Kedron, we were inconsistent through the quarters but for the whole last half we really dominated the contest.”

“In the first half, we were going through the motions a bit.”

James Debono (Kedron):

“I thought we did very well in the first, and we were only 13points at half time.”

“They came out after half-time and just belted us.”

“I just thought they really came out to play (in the second half), worked out what worked well for them backed their own ability to win the footy.”

Coorparoo Kings               6.4, 10.8,  12.11,  18.12  (120)
Caboolture                              1.2,  3.5,  6.8,  8.8  (56)

Coorparoo bounced back from last week’s narrow loss to Robina, with a comfortable defeat over Caboolture on Saturday.

A six-goal-to-one first quarter set the tone for the day, and the Kigs never really looked back.

Sixteen year-old, Hayden Jeffrey, was solid for the Lions in the loss, playing with maturity beyond his years.

Hornets                                 7.1,  11.5,  16.10,  21.12  (138)
Redcliffe                               0.0,  2.1,  2.5,  3.5  (23)

Aspley reignited its 2013 campaign, with an impressive win over Redcliffe, on Saturday.

The win was the Hornets’ third straight and puts them fourth on the ladder, behind competition heavyweights, Robina, Yeronga and Coorparoo.

Redcliffe suffered a major blow early in the second half, with 20 year-old Thomas Roney’s season after breaking his arm.

The match was the Tigers’ fourth-straight loss, and they now face an uphill battle for finals, sitting in 10th.

What the coaches said:
Steve Jenkins (Redcliffe):

“We just got outplayed.”

“If they had have beaten us by a smaller margin that would have been an injustice.”

“Statistically speaking, comparative to other games, we were down in all areas.”

“It was unsettling to lose by that margin.”
