Nambour and Hinterland Australian Football Club and the Sunshine Coast Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) have joined forced to create a new AFL club in the heart of Nambour.
The new club will be based at the Sunshine Coast PCYC and cater for Junior AFL with NAB AFL Auskick, Under 8s and Under 10s.
PCYC Branch Manager, Sergeant Marty Hunt, is happy to be on board with the Nambour and Hinterland Blues for the 2013 AFL Sunshine Coast season.
“It will be great to have some action on our oval here at PCYC throughout the Winter months to keep the locals active,” Hunt said.
“We have Little Athletics as a Summer tenant which is a great addition to our facility and we believe that having our very own AFL club based here at PCYC will be a great opportunity for the community to get involved and use our facilities.
“The committee at Nambour and Hinterland AFC have been great in formulating this partnership to ensure that kids can get active here at PCYC through AFL.”
Over the coming weeks the Sunshine Coast Council, AFL Queensland and the Nambour and Hinterland Blues will be installing AFL goal posts on the PCYC oval.
Nambour and Hinterland AFC Chairman, Darren Lockwood, said the new relationship will be great for AFL development in the Nambour community.
“With our oval being located in Palmwoods it is difficult at times to provide the Nambour community with quality AFL programs,” Lockwood said.
“Having PCYC on board as a junior ‘sister’ feeder club is a great addition to the Blues family and will provide another great training alternative for the Blues junior and seniors throughout the year as well as a great AFL Junior facility on game days.”
AFL Auskick action will kick off at PCYC on Thursday February 14 from 4-5pm and is open for boys and girls aged 5-11 years, to register on line prior- Please visit www.aflauskick.com.au .
Auskick will be followed up with the PCYC Blues AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors Sign-On on Saturday February 16 from 10-2pm with a guest appearance from Brisbane Lions Bernie ‘GABBA’ Vegas.
