The Brisbane Lions will head to Toowoomba and surrounding regions later this week for the Club’s 2013 AFL Australia Post Community Camp.
The two-day camp, starting Friday, February 15, will include a visit to towns affected by recent floods, as well as Grantham, which was also visited by players after the tragic floods in 2011.
All Lions players and coaches will attend the camp on February 15-16.
Lions CEO, Malcolm Holmes, today said: “The 2013 AFL Australia Post Community Camps is an incredibly important vehicle for Clubs to get out and involved in a number of communities right around the country.
“Given the impact of the recent floods on Queensland – this camp has become even more important to us.
“Our players and coaches will depart Brisbane with the goal of putting smiles on the faces of kids in the region – particularly those impacted by the floods, some for the second time in almost as many years.”
Players will spend the first day of camp visiting local schools and flood-affected areas, before the Lions coaches hold a masterclass for local coaches and volunteers. The entire team will then host Sportsman’s Dinner, and launch the Darling Downs AFL season, at Rumours Convention Centre.
On Saturday, fans can watch the players in action as they hold an open training session at Toowoomba Grammar School, before heading out to local Club sign-on sessions throughout the Darling Downs region.
