Yeronga make it back-to-back

The Yeronga Devils have claimed back-to-back premierships in the south-east Queensland Women’s league after defeating the Zillmere Eagles on Sunday.

A 300 strong crowd filled Griffin Park Coorparoo to watch the Devils take the title.

A spirited Zillmere fought gallantly to the end with Yeronga’s defensive pressure making it difficult to even get inside their fifty let alone score.

Sandii Rixon and Monica Allen were strong in the forward line for the Eagles while Teegan Stevenson, Ashleigh Hales and Tayla Harris also performed strongly.

Yeronga’s ball movement was exceptional and they were able to capitalise on additional scoring opportunities.

Heidi Thompson and Emily Bates were solid for the Devils in the backline while onballers, Kate Lutkins and Jordan Zanchetta delivered consistently to the forward line.

In a solid display of football skills, Yeronga eventually took the game 11.5-71 to Zillmere’s 3.3-21.

Emily Bates was rewarded for her performance with the Best on Ground Medal for the final.

This is Yeronga’s second premiership in as many years and with a young group of players, look set to be dominant in the competition for the next few years.
