NAB AFL Auskick gala day

Over 100 Sunshine Coast Auskickers got to play their very first games of AFL recently at the NAB AFL Auskick Gala Day.

Kawana Park JAFC was flooded with kids and their parents on August 11 as budding champions took to the field for the first time.

Seven of the eleven Sunshine Coast junior clubs as well as one school team participated on the day with a round robin of matches for Auskickers aged between 5 and 7.

The AFL inflatable playground provided entertainment for when the kids weren’t on the field as well as Lions mascot Bernie ‘Gabba’ Vegas who even tried his hand on the jumping castle.

Both club and school based Auskick programs were invited to participate with each team playing 3 games on the day.

Event Coordinator Paul Menti said the day was a huge success.

“This is a great turnout for our first ever NAB AFL Auskick gala day and a sign that the clubs, kids and parents support this concept.”

“We’re looking forward to making this even bigger and better next year.”

The event would not have been possible with the support of NAB Caloundra who provided goals, team, bibs, medallions and food for all players.

The day finished with an ‘all in photo’ for the Auskickers with Bernie ‘Gabba’ Vegas and NAB Caloundra staff not being able to resist jumping in as well.
