AFLQ Brisbane Lions Coaching Master Class

AFL Queensland and the Brisbane Lions will be holding a Coaching Master Class at the GABBA on Monday August 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

All coaches who attended a level 1 Junior, Youth or Senior course this year will be required to attend as part 2 of the coaching course requirements.

While the course is designed for all coaches who attended an AFLQ coaching course in 2012 it is also open to previously accredited coaches wanting to update their knowledge.Topics covered include:

·         Roles of a Coaching Team

·         Player Transition

·         Talent Identification

This is the second in the Master Class Series following on from the Cairns class which preceded the recent Richmond Vs Gold Coast SUNS AFL match.

At the Cairns Master Class Richmond assistant coaches Ross Smith and Tim Livingston outlined the roles and responsibilities of the assistant coaches at Richmond and also gave an insight into how the coaching group come together to fast track young talent.

Tim – whose role is to oversee coach and player development at Richmond but also coaches his son’s local U13 team – was able to show the Cairns coaches how he structures up his coaching week with his volunteer assistant coaches.

Other guest presenters included Gold Coast SUNS Assistant Coach Shane O’Bree who spoke on player transition from youth into seniors and the skill set required.

Collingwood and renowned AFL Recruiting Office Noel Judkins then presented what Talent Scouts are looking for and the need to perform the basic skills of the game under pressure.

The Brisbane Lions coaching staff will now give their thoughts on the same topics for our South East Queensland Coaches.
