If you’re looking for an example of how important it is to play all four-quarters, here it is.
Yeronga won this game in a 15-minute period on Saturday, because there was nothing separating the two teams for the rest of it.
After UQ started the better, and opened up a one-goal quarter time lead, the Devils clicked into gear.
They kicked four unanswered goals inside the first 15-minutes of the second quarter to head into the sheds at half time 18-points up… which was the margin at the final siren as well.
The rest of the game was an arm-wrestle. Neither side could string more than a couple of goals together.
It was tough around the footy, it was contested, and both side’s leaders were standing up.
Emily Bates was outstanding for the Devils in the middle, continuing her stellar 2016, while Regan Winterbottom won a heap of it.
For UQ, the superstars Bree Koenen and Emma Zielke were sublime, nearly getting their team over the line.
As each week goes by, the gap between teams closes right up, what a next few months it’s going to be.
COOLANGATTA TWEED v. COORPAROO

In a week where one L. James was dominating the NBA playoffs, and bringing a championship to Cleveland, another L. James was ensuring her team got the job done.
Lauren James booted five goals in Coolangatta-Tweed’s win over Coorparoo, making sure the Blue Birds remain on top for another week.
The road trip was always going to be a difficult one for Coorparoo, and Coolangatta bounced out of the blocks.
They kicked six goals to nil before half time, before adding another four to the tally in the third quarter.
To Coorparoo’s credit, they didn’t roll over or wave the white flag. They came out with a goal to win the last quarter, and they did, kicking two goals to one.
For Coolangatta, Kalinda Howarth’s year went from strength to strength with another ripping performance, supported well by Alex Hamlyn and Kara Membrey.
Brooke Spence battled hard all day for Coorparoo, as did Kate Deegan.
Coolangatta keep rolling on.
WILSTON GRANGE v. ZILLMERE EAGLES

Zillmere took the points, but gee there was a three quarter time upset on the cards.
At the final change, Wilston Grange, on Homecoming Day, had taken a three-point lead, with all the momentum behind them after kicking two goals to nil in the third quarter.
The Eagles weren’t letting this one slip though; they couldn’t afford to fall any further behind the top two.
They came out and iced the game with a 2.4 last quarter, to the Gorillas’ 0.2, making sure they recorded win number four in 2016.
The difference in the game was probably the start the Eagles made.
A four goal opening quarter, and an 11-point quarter-time lead made sure that despite the Gorillas’ third quarter charge, they were still in the contest, and weren’t chasing their tails in the last 20 minutes.
Grange keeps getting better every week, but Zillmere were too polished in this one.
