PANTHERS TOO STRONG FOR CATS

Saturday 7 August 2010

Morningside celebrated co-captain Kent Abey’s 150th game in style, shrugging off an early challenge from Broadbeach to win by 69 points at Esplen Oval today.

An 8.5 to 4.2 second quarter broke the game open after an even first 30 minutes, Morningside going on to win 22.16 (148) to 12.7 (79).

Jacob Gough dominated the air and around the ground, capping a big game with five goals.

Ruck-rover Tyson Upton was in barnstorming form, winning a string of clearances and providing a regular quality supply to the forwards.

Abey kicked three goals in his milestone game, as did Jake Thomlinson.

The Morningside defensive unit continued its good form, with Aaron Rogers and Jarrod Price again prominent and Nathan Kinch providing plenty of spark from half-back.

Broadbeach welcomed back Darin Stewart unexpectedly but he was unable to have any influence on the game against the power-packed Panthers.

Veteran Korey Fulton made the most of his chances to contribute four goals, with little men Taylor Rolfe, Dayne Zorko and Jackson Rolfe doing the hardest yards for the Cats.
