WILL IT MATCH 2008?

Thursday 19 August 2010

The looming Powerade QAFL finals series to be one of the closest on record, rivalling the great year of 2008 for competitiveness.

It was only two years ago that produced one of the closest finals series on record.

Morningside beat the Lions Reserves in the first semi-final by 12 points, Southport disposed by Mt Gravatt by eight points in the second semi, the Vultures then lost a preliminary final heartbreaker to Morningside by seven points, and then Southport triumphed in a brilliant grand final by eight points.

The premiership table of 2010 very much resembles 2006, when four of the top five teams were all considered serious premiership threats.

Only two games separated first from fourth in 2006, with a similar scenario expected after the completion of Round 18 this weekend.

Back in 2006, the team that finish minor premier – Southport – went on to claim the flag.

The Sharks will finish first, second or third this year, depending on results from three separate games, including their own, this weekend.
