Western Rim Round One Success

After launching in March, it was finally time for round one of the Western Rim junior competition on Saturday.

Round One of the new Western Rim junior AFL competition kicked off this weekend with a huge day of footy at the Fassifern Falcons JAFC home ground in Kalbar on Saturday.

Teams from Fassifern, Beaudesert, Jimboomba and Mt Tamborine JAFCs converged on the Kalbar showgrounds to compete in under 6, 8 and 10 divisions.

The Western Rim junior competition is the first ever localised AFL competition in the Scenic Rim region, meaning families no longer have to travel great distances for their children to play or train.

The competition format sees all clubs play at a single venue, creating a great carnival like atmosphere for the teams.

Despite being a newly created club, Fassifern JAFC took the challenge of hosting round one and should be congratulated on what was a successful day for everyone involved.

President of the Fassifern Falcons, Shane Taylor, said that the club had received praise from a number of parents on the day for their professional set up and great day.

One parent was particularly shocked to hear that it was Fassifern’s first day running a footy competition.

“After a lot of hard work to get the club established, we have been looking forward to Round one for a long time now,” Mr. Taylor said.

“It was great to see that the community value and appreciate the great club we have created.”

Next week sees Western Rim teams head to Beaudesert JAFC for round two of the competition.
