AFL Queensland is mourning the loss of one our own.
Sam Brown was known for the permanent smile on his face and his passion for AFL.
The 20-year-old worked as a part–time Development Officer with our Gold Coast team and was looking forward to starting an AFL traineeship in 2013.
Sam played football for the Burleigh Bombers where he managed to finish third in this year’s best and fairest count despite missing a large chunk of the season due to injury.
Sam’s love of the sport was evident and regardless of whether he was playing, promoting, coaching or developing AFL, he gave it his all.
In a heart-felt eulogy, Gold Coast Promotional Development Officer Harley Hollands paid tribute to his good mate.
“How can you sum up an amazing young man’s life – taken too soon – into words?
“Sam was fantastic and energetic; as well as entertaining.
“For a man of 20 he had touched more hearts than most would in a lifetime.
“The brightest light can start from a single spark. This spark was Sam – energetic and bright.”
“Thank you for the happiness that you gave to all of us Sam.
“Although our hearts are broken and our tears are slow to dry, we truly are the lucky ones, who were with you through time. “
AFL Queensland extends our deepest sympathy to parents Tim and Leanne, Brother Nick, family, friends and colleagues.
Sam will be missed.
