Update regarding COVID affected community football games

AFL Queensland wishes to advise that all games that were not played across South East Queensland on the weekend (July 2nd, 3rd, 4th) due to the state’s COVID situation have now been formally cancelled.

Due consideration was given to rescheduling games, but with so many varying competition structures and no/or limited opportunities to reschedule at this late stage of the season, the cancelled games will not be rescheduled. Any fixtured games that weren’t played will result in each team receiving two (2) premiership points. Teams on a bye will not receive any premiership points, as would be the case for any team on a bye. It was determined that a consistent approach to cancel all games for all competitions was important to uphold the integrity of all competitions.

As per AFL Queensland rules, all clubs that receive two (2) premiership points will have the ability to submit a team sheet for their cancelled game, meaning no player’s final’s eligibility will be adversely affected.

For clarity, the original fixture released at the start of the season for the QFA Div. 2 South and the QFAW Div. 2 South shall prevail for the cancelled round.

With the Queensland Government lockdown for Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas now lifted, all fixtured matches will go ahead this weekend as scheduled, including the Bond University QAFLW Grand Finals. Both grand final matches will be played at Yeronga South Brisbane AFC on Sunday 11th July. In the event border restrictions impact the QFA Div. 2 South and the QFAW Div. 2 South competitions, alternate fixturing will occur and clubs will be notified accordingly.

AFL Queensland will continue to be guided by advice from the Queensland Government and health authorities. The health and safety of the community remains the highest priority for our code.
