AFL Queensland Statement re. lockdown extension

The Queensland Government has advised that the lockdown will extend for 24 hours in the Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas to keep Queenslanders safe.

In recognising the expanse of the South East Queensland football network and the many participants, officials and umpires that travel across various local government areas to play and officiate, AFL Queensland has made the decision to abandon all matches in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales this weekend.

Acknowledging that the teams in the Bond University QAFLW Grand Finals are affected differently in their preparation, AFL Queensland wishes to advise that the grand finals will be postponed to Sunday 11th July.

The following AFL Queensland managed competitions; AFL Darling Downs, AFL Capricornia, AFL Mackay, and AFL Townsville, will play as scheduled this weekend.

AFL Queensland will provide an update on Monday regarding the impact of abandoning the games and next weekend’s matches.

The health and safety of the community remains the highest priority for our code. AFL Queensland will continue to be guided by advice from the Queensland Government and health authorities.
