Training starts for AFLBJ umpires

The AFL Brisbane Juniors Umpiring Group kicked off the 2014 season with their first training session on Monday night at Wests Juniors.

The change in training night proved to be successful with approximately 40 umpires attending training.

Umpire Coaches Steve Davis, James Price and Lachlan Chambers welcomed all umpires back for 2014, and welcomed 12 new umpires to the ranks.

Davis provided an outline of the training schedule of the season, committing to not only help the members of the group achieve their goals on-field, but to also provide support and celebrate successes outside of football.

Both Chambers and Price took the group through some skill drills to blow out the cobwebs, whilst Davis gave the new members of the group a brief induction into umpiring.

The group finished off with a couple of games of touch football.

AFL Brisbane Juniors Umpire Coordinator, Pierce Field, was pleased and enthusiastic about the first night of training.

‘We are lucky to have the services of three brilliant coaches, along with a brilliant facility provided and supported by Wests Juniors AFC, we are confident we have one of the best umpire training environments in the state’.

‘The group has retained a majority of it’s list from 2013, who will no doubt be looking to take their umpiring to the next level in 2014’.

‘We have picked up twelve new umpires so far, who all show a great deal of potential’

‘With venues in the South East and Northern Suburbs close to being finalised, which will enable our group to be accessible to all umpires throughout the Brisbane metropolitan area, our current base at Wests, coaching staff, and support from the AFLBJ Board of Management, we are looking forward to a fantastic 2014.’
