SUNS WATCH COASTERS SHINE IN JB CUP

Monday 11 April 2011

Gold Coast Suns young guns Joel Wilkinson and Jeremy Taylor were on hand to watch two local sides dominate the Jonathan Brown Cup Year 8 schools competition last week.

Palm Beach Currumbin and Helensvale will meet in the final at Yeronga on Saturday 14 May after producing some quality football in the South East division showdown.

The competition comprises six teams each in Divisions 1 and 2 from the South East corner of the State who run an AFL School of Excellence program.

For the finely-skilled Wilkinson, a product of the Palm Beach Currumbin State High excellence program, it was a chance to give back.

“It was great to go down and encourage all of the boys participating in the day,” he said. “Only a few years ago I was at Palm Beach Currumbin playing in the same competition.

AFL Queensland schools coordinator was delighted with the appearance of the Suns players.

“It was great to have them here in person going round and talking to all of the players throughout the day,” she said. “The young players got so much out of them being here.”
