SUNS outshine Lions in All-Stars clash

The Brisbane Lions started strongly with three goals straight to Jenna Vandyk, but it was the Gold Coast SUNS who stormed home to take the chocolates by 25-points in yesterday’s Women’s All-Stars clash at Metricon Stadium.

If the women looked they were playing for sheep stations, it’s because they were; the match plays an important part in the selection process for the AFL Women’s Draft on April 20 and the state game on June 7, which will see Queensland take on Tasmania at the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex.

The All-Stars teams comprised players from the state’s new Women’s Talent Academy, the 2015 Youth Girls Academy and players hand-picked from regional leagues.

The match was a curtain raiser to the Gold Coast SUNS v St Kilda clash, with Saints players spotted cheering the girls on from the sidelines.
