SUNS NORTHERN RIVERS CAMP DETAILS

Find out where you can catch the Gold Coast Suns when they hit the region this weekend as part of the 2012 Australia Post AFL Community Camps.

The Gold Coast SUNS will converge on the Northern Rivers region from Sunday as part of the 2012 Australia Post AFL Community Camps.

The Australia Post AFL Community Camps will see all Gold Coast SUNS listed players take the game to regional communities giving football fans of all ages the chance to meet their heroes, and learn skills from the players and coaches.

GC SUNS players will see in excess of 7,500 participants over the two days during Super Clinics and school visits in the Northern Rivers and Rockhampton regions. The majority of the team will head south of the border, visiting Ballina, Lismore and Casino, while a small group including North Queensland’s very own, Zac Smith, Charlie Dixon and Jarrod Harbrow will visit Rockhampton.

Captain Gary Ablett said he was really looking forward to visiting the Region.

“The guys are really looking forward to our camp.  I’ve heard quite a bit about the last time we visited the area and I know the players had a fantastic time.

“It’s great to spend time with young players and coaches.   It’s a good reminder of how we all started our sports careers and gives the team a chance to spend time together away from our usual routine”.

Over the two days of the camp, the SUNS will hold a free Super Clinic and autograph session at Ballina High School Oval on Sunday afternoon, followed by a demonstration of the recreational form of the game, AFL 9’s against members of the public   In the evening players and coaching staff will hold an AFL Forum for local junior club officials.

On Monday 6 February, the team will travel to primary and secondary schools in Ballina, Lismore and Casino.  The school visits will include skills clinics as well as discussion on subjects including healthy eating, exercise and time management.
