Sunfire Academy starts for Summer

Thirty-five 12 year old girls all identified at the Sunfire Superstars Carnival, tonight started their first Academy session under the watchful eye of two-time All-Australian Sunfire player Katie Brennan and AFL 9s Coordinator Marc Seen.

The girls came from as far away as the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast to take part in the all-girl Academy.

The aim of the Academy is to upskill girls to be able to understand and enjoy participating in football, as well as providing them opportunities to be involved in club football in 2013.   They will also be exposed to the representative pathway with state Under 18 and Sunfire (Women’s State Team) players assisting with training sessions.

The girls will train once a month leading into the Home and Away season in April with a final session culminating in an intra-Academy game in May.
