Tuesday 2 August 2011

School children from across south-east Queensland will enjoy a special treat tomorrow in a monster day of grand final football at the Gabba.

From 10.30am it will be the grand final of the Carol Berry Cup, the competition for Years 6-7 girls teams.

It will feature Yeronga State School, who have done an outstanding job in in their first season in the competition, up against Our Lady of Mt.Carmel at Coorparoo, who will be looking to go one better this year after finishing runners-up in 2010.

At 11.30am Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School on the Gold Coast will meet Mountain Creek State High from the Sunshine Coast in the Northern States Cup Grand Final.

This match will be a replay of the corresponding 2010 decider, when, in memorable fashion, PBC had a shot after the siren when scores were deadlocked at full-time and kicked a point to win the title.

Then, at 1pm in the showcase event of the gala day, it will be an all-Gold Coast showdown in the Brisbane Lions Cup Division One grand final.

Helensvale State High will defend their title against Palm Beach-Currumbin in the battle for supremacy in the competition which brings together AFL Queensland’s School of Excellence teams.
