A bunch of primary school children in Cairns are in for one very big day on Thursday.

The team from the St.Francis will be up bright and early to fly to the Gold Coast to be part of finals day in the Gold Coast Suns Cup at Metricon Stadium.

They will be one of four teams doing battle for the large gold cup, previously known as the Future Stars Cup, and a signed Gold Coast Suns AFL jumper that are on offer for the winners (pictured).

St.Francis Xavier will meet Stella Maris School from the Sunshine Coast in one of two semi-finals at 11am.

The other qualifier will be between Nudgee Junior at Indooroopilly and Narangba Valley State School.

The two winners will meet in the grand final at 12.30pm, looking to secure a title won last year by Yeronga State School, while the losers will meet in the consolation final.

The on-field action will be the highlight of the day for members of the four teams, but the Suns will ensure there’s plenty to keep them occupied regardless of the outcome.

All players in the school teams will enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent new stadium, and as many as half of the Suns playing list will be on hand to help present the trophies and join in an extensive Q/A session with the children.
