Round 2 Rising Star Nominee: Matt Daniel

Matt Daniel has already had a heap of the footy this year, but their was one difference between this week and last, accuracy.

The round 2 Rising Star nominee was dominant up forward in Labradors big win over the Western Magpies, finishing with three majors.

“It was perfect, we played good team footy for the first time all year, last year we would have taken the foot off the pedal, but it was good to put them away and play the four quarters of footy,” Daniel said.

After kicking 1.5 in round one, Daniel put in the hard yards between games to get his eye back in

“I have done a fair bit of work on goal kicking during the week so it was good that it came off a little bit, better than last week anyway,” he said.

The Tigers really opened up the forward line for Daniel and Josh Baxter last week, allowing them the space to lead up at the footy, but Daniel isn’t too fussed about where he fits into the lineup.

“I don’t mind where I play as long as we are all getting a kick and all performing,” Daniel said.

Their win on the weekend has given the group a lot of confidence about their chances in 2015.

“It’s an awesome feeling around the club. It was a good feeling last year but there is a lot more buzz and we are all training well, putting it together on the track,” he said.

As to whether they can go all the way, Daniel was bullish without going over the top.

“We have got the cattle, but Morningside are always going to be the team to beat, but it’s definitely not just a two-horse race, Sandgate proved that last week,” Daniel said.

“I think we got the Western Magpies on a bad day, there is going to be a lot more teams in it this year.”

Labrador travel to Surfers Paradise this weekend to take on the Demons.

“Everyone is good to go, we have got the bye next week so nobody will be taking it easy,” he said.
