Roosters claim 2014 QAFA (A) premiership

By Rebecca Palma

Griffth Moorooka capped off an incredible  season, taking out the QAFA (A) premiership, over Piner Rivers, 11.17 (83) – 9.13 (67).

The Roosters had won 10 matches in a row heading into the grand final, but Saturday’s win was the one that mattered most, giving them the premiership cup.

The Swans proved to be stiff competition, pushing the minor premiers all day, with the margin just four points at the final change.

Pine Rivers has shown brilliant attacking this season, providing a difficult opposition for the defensive Roosters.

Griffith Moorooka held the early advantage, with a three-goal buffer at the first quarter break, but the Sewans whittled that away as the game continued.

Some wayward kicking from the Roosters left the game open to be snatched headinginto that final term, before the Roosters piled on five unanswered goals in the last.

Pine Rivers never let up, kicking the final three goals of the premiership decider, but ultimately the Swans ran out of time.

Glenn Hodgetts set the pace for the game slotting 3 goals for the Roosters in the opening quarter.

The Swans’ Troy Wilkie and Daniel Dai weren’t easily persuaded, and adamant to make this a Pine Rivers victory fought hard to push their team forward.

It was the day of Roosters’ half-forwards as Luke Valdes ripped into the final quarter, kicking 3 majors and tearing apart any hope the Swans had of the 2014 Premiership.
