Record 900 Auskickers for Darling Downs

AFLQ Staff in Darling Downs celebrate record Auskick numbers in the region.

It’s been as a huge start to 2012 for AFLQ staff in Darling Downs, with a record 900 school students from throughout the region signing on for NAB AFL Auskick in term 1.

The figure smashes the previous 2011 “school term” record of 704 and is a testament to the efforts of AFLQ staff to get more girls and boys playing AFL.

Auskick has reached all parts of the region with the program up and running in the Lockyer Valley, Dalby, Pittsworth, Texas, Inglewood, Goondiwindi, Warwick and Toowoomba.

AFL Development Officer Jeff Neumann said that while it was a great result, staff would not be resting on their laurels.

“The hard work begins now,” said Neumann.

“We have worked hard to get the 900 students doing the program, now we will work even harder with the transition of Auskickers to club AFL to boost local junior numbers.”

Neumann also said staff were expecting to double the 900 figure by the end of school term 3.

Auskick centres are starting again for Term 2 in the coming weeks.
