Queensland U18 State Academy Preview: Vic Country

The Queensland Under 18 State Academy Squad takes on the Victorian Country Under 18 team this Sunday at Ikon Park, Carlton.

The game, which gets underway at 10:30am, will be the first hit-out for the team since the final squad was settled upon last week.

The selected 24 will run out against half of the Vic Country squad, with the other half lining up against New South Wales.

Queensland Academy and High Performance Manager Adrian Fletcher is extremely happy with how the boys are tracking.

“We are really confident of a good performance on Sunday. We had a good hit-out on Wednesday night, which was done at game intensity, so we really pushed them,” Fletcher said.

“We want to see how we stack up against the best in the country, we will have to have all our structures in place, but I think we will do well.

“We have got some real depth this year, and I’m really happy with the team I picked, it’s a good spread of talented footballers.”

Queensland will be without Ben Keys and Eric Hipwood, who have been left at home after traveling with the AIS-AFL squad the week before.

It will be the final tune up before the boys get their 2015 TAC Cup campaign underway the following Saturday when they play the Dandenong Stingrays at Redland.

It will be the first of five TAC Cup games they play this year, in addition to the national carnival across June and July.
