Queensland Country squad announced

Queensland selectors have named a squad of 26 players to compete in the 2012 Australian Country Football Championships to be held in Wagga Wagga from July 19 to July 22.

Selector Brian Douge said he was pleased with the quality and spread of  the final Queensland squad which sees  90% of Queensland country regions represented.

“In terms of player size it’s a relatively small team but it is fast, enduring and skilful which is ideal for the heavy grounds and often wet conditions in Wagga,” said Douge.

The Australian Country Football Championships were established 20 years ago with the first Australian Country Carnival hosted by Shepparton, Victoria.

The Australian Country Football Championships have been played every two years, with the host venue rotating through the participating states.
