PBC go back-to-back

The Gold Coast’s Palm Beach Currumbin State High has won the annual Jonathan Brown Cup.

Once again proving too strong for their Schools of Excellence counterparts, PBC eventually beat cross-town rivals Helensvale State High to take the cup in the grand final.

Jacob Burrows from PBC won the Best On Ground medal in the final, after a dominant performance.

Helensvale finished second, going one better than 2012.

Narangba Valley put up a strong performance to finish third, followed by Victoria Point, Mountain Creek, Park Ridge and Sandgate.

Year 8 students from the South East Queensland Schools of AFL Excellence from Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, meet at the start of each season to contest the Jonathan Brown Cup carnival.

The focus is on development, with students new to the schools and level of competition able to play in a modified environment, before their Round 1 matches of the Schools of Excellence Cup commence.
