Lions hit 20,000 members

The Brisbane Lions will enter their first home game of the season against Adelaide on Saturday with more than 20,000 members behind them.

The current membership tally of 20,078 has surpassed last year’s total of 20,072. Lions fans can purchase memberships right up until the end of July.

“Our members play a vital role within our football club,” said Lions Senior Coach Michael Voss.

“And we’re doing everything we can to repay their faith by improving both as a team and a club.

“We want to make playing at the Gabba a daunting task for any opposition team and the support of our members – not to mention their voices – is critical in achieving this.”

Renewals of Queensland seasonal membership have increased significantly from 2012, while the popular three-game memberships are entering their peak growth period.

Meanwhile, Victorian memberships have seen a 5% increase this year off the back of two successful NAB Cup games in Melbourne and the Victorian Family Fun Day.

With the Lions preparing for their battle against last year’s Preliminary finalists, Adelaide, Voss said: “We want as many bums on seats as we possibly can for our first home game at the Gabba this year.

“Queenslanders love their sport and, for me, there’s no better experience than watching a live AFL game at the Gabba.”
