PANTHERS, THUNDER IN SERIOUS MODE

Thursday 24 March 2011

Morningside and the NT Thunder have named full-strength sides for their national showpiece Foxtel Cup contest at Adelaide’s AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

Both clubs are viewing the nationally televised clash on FoxSports as a great opportunity to showcase their clubs and are hellbent on winning a place in the quarter finals.

The Thunder have well performed NTFL midfielder Iggy Vallejo back in harness, while Karl Lohde is another experienced utility who will give them more firepower after missing last season.

The diminutive Ross Tungatalum has been explosive in the NTFL and will add great speed to a Thunder outfit that has the Ilett brothers, Andrew McLeod and Jason Roe in their midst.

With big key position players Shaun Tapp and Cam Roberts fit and firing, they have a particularly well-balanced line-up.

Morningside have midfield guns Paul Shelton, David Lillico, Adam Spackman all in top shape at this early stage of the season and the biggest query will be how they cover the loss of ruck great Jacob Gough.

Teenage Redland ruck recruit Matthew Sturgeon may be held back for next week’s opening round of the NEAFL season when the Panthers tackle the Lions Reserves at Esplen Oval.
