With regional carnival days over, winning teams from the 11 Queensland regions have progressed to the next stage: Pool Finals.
In Pool A, winner from the Gold Coast/Northern Rivers, Darling Downs and Brisbane West will contest their final tomorrow at Sherwood AFC. St Michael’s College, Benowa State High School, Our Lady of the Southern Cross College (Dalby) and Ferny Grove State High School will contest a round-robin style day of matches to determine who will progress to the State Quarter Final.
In Pool B, Brisbane South East will be represented by Anglican Church Grammar School and will take on Wavell State High School from the Brisbane North Region. This one off elimination game will be played on 16th June at Sandgate AFC.
In Pool C, the footy has been played and won with Mountain Creek State High School taking the honours defeating Emmaus College and Bundaberg North State High School in their local derby in Bundaberg last week.
And finally in Pool D, we see Mackay North State High School making the journey to Townsville to take on Kirwan State High School and St Andrew’s from Cairns, to be played on 22nd June.
Winning teams from each pool will then contest the State Quarter and Semi Finals in Brisbane at the Brisbane Lions’ training ground, Coorparoo AFC, on Wednesday 13th July. The winner of this will meet the winner of the AFL Schools of Excellence Junior Division, in a centrepiece Grand Final at the Gabba on the annual AFL Schools Grand Final day, Wednesday 3rd August. The champion will then travel to Sydney in September to represent Queensland at the Northern States Cup Finals.
