South Queensland achieved victory over North Queensland in their 2017 North versus South representative clash on Saturday at Cazaly’s Stadium.

The win is the second in a row for South Queensland, after they ended up on top in 2016, leaving the North and South on two wins each since the series’ inception in 2014.

Noosa midfielder Thomas Templeton was awarded the Ron Davidson medal as South Queensland’s best on the day, while North Queensland’s Wayne Jackson medal went to Port Douglas’ Wesley Glass.

South Queensland held a small lead at the first change, then really took over in the second quarter, getting on top in the midfield and kicking four unanswered goals. The North showed some spirit in the third quarter, but ultimately couldn’t get back in the contest.

Jackson Ryan was prolific with three goals for South Queensland, as was Ron Davidson medallist Tom Templeton, who was damaging through the middle of the ground and also bagged three goals.

The North Queenlsand forward combination, of tall target Kye Chapple and small forward Fitzroy Greenwool, worked well and netted the duo three goals each. Wayne Jackson medal winner Wes Glass was another positive for the North, playing a stellar game in defence, spoiling well in the air and cleaning up at ground level.

The match was played as a curtain raiser to the Western Bulldogs versus Gold Coast SUNS AFL clash, which was won convincingly won by the Bulldogs 110 to 56.
