New long-term deal for Harrup Park & AFLQ

AFL Queensland CEO Michael Conlan was in Mackay yesterday to announce that AFLQ had extended its partnership with Harrup Park Country Club until 2026.

As part of the partnership, AFLQ supplied Harrup Park Country Club with $150,000 for infrastructure works.

Harrup Park Chairman Terry Doolan , General Manager Michael Jones and AFL Queensland  Michael Conlan all spoke at a function to announce the new deal.

Conlan said he was aiming to bring a NAB Cup game to Mackay by 2015 and an AFL fixture to Mackay by 2020, as well as regular Anzac Day NEAFL clashes involving AFL clubs.

“We had a trial match here, what we thought was a bit of a test trial, when we brought the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns,” he said.

“That was, we feel, a fantastic event. We’re very much focussed now to bring back that game.

“We’ve got a bit of a bid at the moment, whether it’s the Lions and Suns or even the Sydney Swans coming up here.”
