NEAFL stars to face off in Festival of Football

Aspley and the Brisbane Lions Reserves won’t have to wait long to revive their 2013 rivalry, with a highly anticipated hit out at the Moreton bay Festival of Football on Saturday.

Two of the best sides in last year’s NEAFL Northern Conference will be on display in the match, which is a replay of the 2013 Conference Final.

It might just be a practice match, but the Hornets will be keen to draw first blood and continue their pre-season form, after a strong win over the SUNS reserves last weekend.

Brisbane’s side will showcase a number of young Queenslanders, including rookie-listed Archie Smith and former Hornet, Isaac Conway.

For Aspley, there will be plenty of new recruits on show, including former Mt Gravatt player, Gavin Grose, along with the established NEAFL elite, such as 2013 Syd Guildford Trophy winner, Cheynee Stiller.

Three weeks out from the NEAFL season, the match will provide a great preview of some of the top talent that will be on show throughout the year.

The NEAFL match will form a curtain-raiser to the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans, which kicks off at 2:30pm.

The Moreton Bay Festival of Football will kick off with the Councillors Cup between Caboolture and Redcliffe at 10, and will include the official opening of the new Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex – AFL Precinct.

Off the field, there will be plenty of fun activities for everyone, with the Lions Family Day forming part of the festivities.
