McDonald’s SEQ Juniors Grand Final Footy Fever

The 2020 season for South East Queensland Juniors is coming to a thrilling end this weekend, with a jam packed schedule of finals across four venues in South East Queensland.

The first of the finals kicks off tonight at Yeronga AFC, with 22 finals at this venue over the course of the weekend.

Hundreds will also converge at Ormeau AFC across the weekend, with 12 finals taking place throughout Saturday and Sunday across the girls and boys competitions.

To mark this special occasion for our junior players, four AFLW Gold Coast SUNS players will be joining in all the action on Oval 2 at Ormeau on Sunday, to present the winning teams with their trophies. SUNS players Kalinda Howarth and Alison Drennan will be on Oval 2 from 10am – 12.30pm. At 1.30pm Jamie Stanton and Lucy Single will take over the duties, remaining at the field til 4pm.

Down south, Tweed Coast will be hosting a finals match for the U13 Girls South White and the U12 South White on Sunday.

Meanwhile on the north coast, all of the action will take place on Sunday, with seven finals taking place on the day at Kawana AFC.

This action packed schedule is a wonderful end to an incredibly challenging year for the code, with delays to commencement due to Covid-19 and a raft of protocol considerations to manage.

“To have made it to this pinnacle of the season is a tremendous achievement,” said Mark Ensor, State Manager for Kids, Growth and Diversity.

“It is a real testament to the hard working clubs, coaches, volunteers, officials and also the parents and families who have supported the season,” he said.

“We can’t wait to see the smiles on the kids as they get to celebrate the end of their season and enjoy the opportunity to compete in a Grand Final”.
