Mayne dominate to win QFA Division 1 Reserves Premiership

By Ant Wingard

A dominant four-quarter performance from Mayne was the catalyst for their rampant 35-point win in the QFA Division 1 Reserves competition.

The Tigers were by far the better team, blitzing the first half where they kept Noosa scoreless, to win 4.10 (34) to 10.9 (69).

It was a result that was emphatic to say the least even considering Mayne’s inaccuracy on the scoreboard.

The two teams combined for 6.11 in the opening half with all six goals falling the way of the yellow and black which helped establish an unassailable lead.

Even with their defensive unit rendering the Noosa forwards to little impact throughout the game, Mayne were forced to wither a competitive battle in the midfield to provide their own forwards with ample opportunities to score.

It took a while for the North Brisbane side to open the scoring but they finally broke the duck 11 minutes into the opening term before adding another shortly after through Adam Minchev.

The shock continued in the second term as Mayne piled on another four majors to extend their lead to 37 at the main break against a Noosa side who hadn’t lost a game all season.

When Kane Tyson converted his set shot four minutes into the third term the bookends of the match were all but settled – Noosa’s hopes of perfecting an undefeated season in tatters while Mayne – a club full of tradition – could celebrate as premiers.

With the game all but decided heading into the final term, it was a quarter of celebration for Mayne, who booted three for the term including a cheeky snap from Corey Massingham from deep in the pocket.

For Noosa, the minor premiers booted their first goals of the game in the final term – they kicked three majors in all – but the damage was well and truly done.

Noosa: 0.2 0.5 0.8 4.10 (34)
Mayne: 2.4 6.6 8.8 6.9 (69)
