JAMES FREE FOR SEMI-FINAL

Tuesday 31 August 2010

Southport have receive a major boost in the lead-up to their do-or-die first semi-final against Mt Gravatt at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday with star wingman David James free to play for the Sharks.

James was booked on an abusive language charge during last Sunday’s qualifying final loss to Morningside.

He pleaded guilty to the charge, which did not carry enough points to warrant a suspension.

It was a similar story for young forward Matt Fowler, who pleaded guilty to striking Morningside’s Tom Bell.

The incident was deemed low impact but behind the play, although Fowler’s early guilty plea discounted the points enough to avoid suspension.

James’ availability is critical, especially in light of the hamstring injury to captain Danny Wise.

Coach Craig Crowley was adamant after the game that his inspirational skipper would play against the Vultures but there remains serious doubt over the Grogan Medal favourite.
