Logan’s Jade Pregelj has been crowned the Brisbane Women’s League Best & Fairest Player for the second year in a row.

In a phenomenal effort, Pregelj (pictured top) polled 21 votes, one more than last year, to win the B&F medal from Yeronga’s Kate Lutkins (18) and Zillmere’s Madi Crowley (17).

Crowley might consider herself a little unlucky – she missed the last four games of the season with a broken collarbone – but there was no doubting the quality of Pregelj’s year.

In other awards presented at the AFLQ Women’s League dinner at the Fox Hotel last Friday night, Morningside’s Sherie Sayle took home the goal-kicking trophy for the second year in a row, and Kedron’s Amy Kelly (pictured bottom) won the Rising Star Award.

Eleven members of the 2010 Team of the Year won equivalent recognition for 2011 – Pregelj and Logan clubmate Jenille Pasfield, Crowley and Zillmere clubmates Jasmine Boyers and Yolanda Jones, Lutkins and Yeronga/South Brisbane clubmate Kate Brennan, Morningside’s Juanita Mottram, Emma Zielke and Monica O’Brien, and Kedron’s Aimee Sewell.

Premiers Yeronga/South Brisbane had six representatives – Lutkins, Brennan, Cleo Davis, Lauren James, Heidi Thompson and Emily Wastle.

Oddly, runners-up Morningside finished with seven – Mottram, Zielke and O’Brien plus Sayle, Laura Madden, Georgie Black and Dania Herdman.

Zillmere had four players included in the Team of the Year, Logan, who had won five premierships in a row before being knocked off their perch this year, three, and Kedron two.
