Independent Schools GPS Cup Preview

This week the all new GPS Division of the AFL SportsReady Independent Schools Cup kicks off around Brisbane.

This week the all new GPS Division of the AFL SportsReady Independent Schools Cup kicks off around Brisbane.

The new division was necessary to accommodate the GPS Schools’ change of sports calendar from trimesters to terms in 2012.

The best of the best will go head to head in a round robin-style weekly competition culminating in the Grand Final Carnival Night on Friday 25th May at Yeronga.

The new Term Two competition has attracted a major sponsor, AFL SportsReady, who has been a wonderful supporter of AFL throughout the years. Queensland Manager Shane Johnson also played an integral part in establishing the original Independent Schools Cup 21 years ago, then working with AFL Queensland.

Traditionally, the Brisbane GPS schools have participated in Division One of the annual Independent Schools Cup, held in Term 3 and 4 each year, alongside other Independent Schools from in and around Brisbane.

The GPS Division will see teams competing in Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Open age groups (First XVIII and Second XVIII). The Year 10 and Open age groups will play on Wednesday nights while the Year 8 and 9 matches will be on Friday nights.

Round One sees a slight change to this schedule as it falls around ANZAC Day. The full draw complete with results and ladders is available by clicking above on SCHOOL FOOTBALL then FIXTURES AND RESULTS, then selecting the age group you wish to view.
