Falcons get behind a good cause

The Ferny Grove Falcons have joined the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer.

IN two weeks time, Ferny Grove Falcons Life Member and club stalwart Gary Walsh will skip his usual Saturday footy to take on a new challenge.

On August 18 and 19, Gary will tackle 200km on his bike as part of the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer; and the Falcons are right behind him.

Club President Greg Paterson, Secretary Kevin Lingard and Sponsorship Officer Cameron McLean manned the tongs on July 28 for a charity BBQ to help Gary reach his $2500 goal.

The club ate generously during their weekly junior fixtures raising almost $700 towards the cause.

“Over the years, Gary’s done a lot for the Falcons,” said Mr Paterson. “It says something about the spirit of the club that we were so willing to help out Gary and a worthwhile cause.”

Gary’s ride will start in Brisbane’s CBD before heading up the Brisbane Valley Highway and out past Wivenhoe Dam.
