Eagles fly into QWAFL GF

Zillmere earned its QWAFL grand final spot, with a comfortable 14.11 (95) – 3.4 (22) win over Yeronga on Saturday.

The Eagles led from the outset, keeping the Devils scoreless in the opening term, and letting only three goals for the entire match.

Tayla Harris was dominant in the forward line kicking five goals, while Cassi Bell had three for the day.

Nat Thomas scored two majors for the Devils on the day, while Hayley Newberry chipped in as well, but the Eagles were simply too strong for the Devils.

Ash Hales had one of her best games of the year, in an influential performance, while Madi Crowley produced another fantastic effort for the Eagles.

Jessica Harley battled all day for Yeronga, while Chrystal Dwyer was good for the Devils as well.

Usual midfield contributors, Jordan Zanchetta and Emily Bates, were solid for Yeronga in what was a difficult day for one of the QWAFL powerhouses.

The win puts Zillmere into the flag decider against hot favourites Coorparoo on Saturday at Yeronga.

Zillmere’s third straight win over Yeronga, a team they had never beaten before this season, ends the Devils’ chances of a fourth straight grand final appearance and third flag in four years.
