Competition Fierce For Youth Girls Cup

Seven teams competed in the 2012 Youth Girls Cup at Coorparoo this week.

Secondary school girls from the Brisbane South East region converged on Coorparoo JAFC this week for the 2012 Youth Girls Cup (formerly known as the Jonathan Brown Cup).

Seven school teams took part in the modified 9-a-side competition, with teams competing for the opportunity to take on schools from across SEQ in the Grand Final at Yeronga on March 22nd.

AFL Brisbane South East School Development Officer Daniel Almond said that the impressive skill level and overall spirit shown by the girls was a driving force behind the competition’s success.

“The prospect of Grand Final birth was extra incentive and that really shone through in the way they played today,” said Daniel.

“They were fiercely competitive, but at the same time there was lots of smiling and laughing and they all had a great time.”

Victoria Point SHS was the standout team in the senior division, whilst St James College took out the junior division.

The victors can now look forward to competing in the upcoming Youth Girls Cup Final against teams from the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs and Brisbane.

We extend big thank you to Coorparoo JAFC for providing their facilities and canteen on the day.
